My Sweet Seven Year Old

This is my favorite seven year old boy in the whole wide world! He is such a joy! He loves riding his bike, Webkinz, playing with light sabers and doing math. I love teaching him his Bible lessons. He is an expert frog catcher and popcicle eater.

This evening he came in with a "bouquet". I didn't know he was kidding so I put them in a vase. When someone is in first grade, it's hard to know how to take them. His sense of humor has really developed this year. I'm afraid he's going to be a trickster.

This morning he came in the house and said, "Mom, have you met our new snake?" My boys are always catching things! They have caught toads, frogs, snakes, baby muskrats, bees, worms, ants, turtles and who knows what else will appear in the future.

He is my youngest and he's growing up too fast. These days, I have to bribe him to sit in my lap. I know when I'm old and gray I'll wish that I could meet that snake in a bucket again!

Discipline

This quote was in a devotional I read this morning. I like it.

Discipline is the ability to say "no" to what is sin, "yes" to what is right, and to say "I will" to what ought to be done. Jerry White

And this is from an email devotional I get. (Elisabeth Elliot)

Lead me, Lord, to the Rock that is higher than I. Let me hear your word, give me grace to obey, to build steadily, stone upon stone, day by day, to do what You say. Establish my heart where floods have no power to overwhelm, for Christ's sake. Amen.

Mother's Day '09

I appreciate the little surprises in life~like violets and Peanut M&M's!

My blessings took me on a picnic for Mother's Day this year! The weather was gorgeous, the food was great and the company was the best! We were near an historic town and visited some quaint shops. We enjoyed walking on a path along the river.

Thanks for the great day!

Mother's Day Gift Idea

These are gifts for the Moms in my daughter's Sunday School Class. I thought they turned out really cute! We found cone-shaped bags after Easter on sale at Wal-Mart. Then we found bath salts on clearance at Target. We were thinking of a creative way to divide up the bath salts and we thought the bags would look like an ice cream cone. A washcloth makes perfect "icecream"!

Sure Signs That It's May

~ The lilacs are blooming and the rhubarb is ready~

Here's a Recipe for Baked Rhubarb

Put the following in a greased pan:
3 c. rhubarb (diced)
1 T. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 t. cinnamon

Topping-Mix well and cut in butter with a pastry blender
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. rolled oats
1-1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 t. salt

Bake until rhubarb is tender. I baked this in a 9x9 pan at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
